Puppet Ministry in Silahliwe Squatter Camp

The Benjamin Dube Children’s Foundation continues to attract more people in the Squatter Camp of Silahliwe in Meyerton. This weekend we experienced a great visit from the Puppet Ministry team. This Ministry is led by  Lisa, and she works together with a team of men and women. I came in contact with Lisa through a colleague Verena Peters.  A a very humble young lady who is touched by anything that cause pain to others.

The first time we met early this year, Verena was touched by the community work I’m involved in, and my background. This is the email she sent me after reading my blog; ‘
Hi Solomon,

“I was just checking out your blogspot - "Jesus is Hope"....

“What amazing work you and your wife have done - and what a GREAT example you are!

“I really love Jesus - and Im so inspired by your work you are doing for Him. What a Great God we serve!

“I pray that God really blesses you and your family richly for your obedience and following!

“Kind Regards and God Bless
Verena

This is a day the kids will not easily forget. The squatter camp was turned into “A wonderful world of kids”. Lisa who had painted her face colourfully became a centre of attraction to the kids and to the residents of Silahliwe.
The gospel of Christ was preached to the kids in a form of puppets. It was a quite a great day. The kids enjoyed every moment they spent with the team. They were also entertained with music. They also had juice and biscuits. The team also donated lots and lots  of clothes.
On her first visit to the squatter camp, Lisa shared about a little who served her master from leprosy. “This little girl was kept as a slave in Naaman’s (commander) house. One day Naaman became sick of leprosy. All his prophets and doctors failed to cure him. But the little girl told her master about Elisha.
“Naaman went to Elisha, but when he arrived he was told to go and bath in river jordaan 7 times. Naaman did not want to, but his servants begged him. He said he had left many rivers in his country, what was so special about river Jordaan.
“He then listened to the advises by his servants. After 7 times going deep into the river, Naaman was cleansed of the leprosy. He was happy and wanted to pay Elisha, but Elisah could not receive his gifts, for he knew that he did not heal him, but God did.”
This story makes us aware that the children we serve in the squatter camps can become of great help, only if we can give them the love and support they need. They can actually save lives!!!
