Greening of Lotus Gardens

Konica Minolta, together with Food & Trees for Africa (FTFA), celebrated the greening of Lotus Gardens project, by donating 1000 trees to the grateful community on 15 & 16 August 2011 respectively.

This was indeed a great day, where the community members from all ages came in numbers to receive the gift of 1000 trees by Konica Minolta.

The first speaker, Solomon Mondlane, FTFA Community Forester in charge of this project, welcomed all. Nosipho Sibanda, a poet, followed by singing praise to the world’s longest living species, the tree. “Thank you Minolta, thankyou for greening our Townships!” exclaimed Nosipho.

Solomon Mondlane spoke much about FTFA and its five programmes and emphasised the importance of trees.

Jaco Jordaan, Konica Minolta Tshwane Area Manager, gave a short speech explaining how Konica Minolta got involved in the greening of South Africa through the donation of trees in our Townships. Furthermore, Jaco presented the twenty Community Educators with Konica Minolta branded certificates, recognizing their participation in basic training on how to plant and care for the trees.

To conclude the programme, Solomon and Jaco conducted a detailed and energetic tree planting demonstration for the community along with three other Konica Minolta representatives; Raadia Murray, Jason Coussews and She Woods, handing out the trees to the enthusiastic residents of Lotus Gardens.

“What a great day as the sponsor and community members sang and danced together celebrating the trees.” concluded Solomon.
