Green Revolution - Chapter 4

When I set out to join the green revolution a year ago, I wasn’t trying to become a millionaire; or a celebrity; or a crowd puller for that matter. I wasn’t thinking about how to get book deals, product sales, or speaking in climate change conferences organised to challenge the governments of this world especially the G8 countries. No! I just had a desire to answer to the call of Nature; to save our beautiful creation. I didn’t know about  the outreach strategy, and I didn’t have any of the helpful resources that are now made available for me by FTFA; and I was not even connected to any organisation like FTFA. But I knew I had to make a difference. FTFA became a bridge between me and my dream.

I had no idea that the green revolution would be what it is today. The tree distributions and events led many community members to join the green ship. And our awareness has motivated so many people to be cautious about the way they live. Many residents has food gardens in their yards, and they are water wise. Our green revolutionaries eat, sleep, walk and play green. And this fight needs to be taken from one generation to another.  My focus has always been to get everyone on board. FTFA has also grown and matured in all aspects over the years; the staff, the leadership and volunteers – all continued to increase in numbers and grow healthier every day. I thank God continually that FTFA has become the image of hope to everyone, and a symbol of recovery to our Mother Earth. It’s no surprising to find other organisations mentioning FTFA as a centre of inspiration in their works.

Green revolution – it begins with you! You need to take a first step. You will grow along the way. Don’t follow any specific strategy or formula. Just offer yourself to play a positive role in this beautiful world. You can do it. I have studied the permaculture principles and I believe they can be applied in our green revolution movement. Remember, this is not a formula for you to start your own green revolution. Do it your own way.

Work With Nature, Not Against It

Be in touch with Nature. Have a feeling for the animals, insects, plants, rocks, weather, the sea, mountains, reproduction and growth. By so doing, you will find yourself willing to do good for the benefit of our land.

Laziness:

The principle of laziness might not be understood, but it is a powerfool tool to launch your green revolution. “Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance.” Plan well and be ready to face challenges ahead. Sit back, relax, observe, think and write every detail of what you want to do. Use challenges you may encounter as “motivators”. Pollution is waste or excess energy or when an element has no function. In nature there is no pollution. So sit back lazily and start asking ; WHY? Many ‘whys’ lead to less work.

Connectivity:

Everything thing you plan to do must be connected to everything else. Bring in the people (polluters) – List everything that falls under Nature - State clearly the damages the people have caused to each (e.g. Trees were cut down by people due to the building of the ten world cup 2010 stadiums, and birds disappeared because they had no where to make their nests and live.) – Then come up with solutions to the damages; e.g. Planting of trees , mainteinance and state clearly the benefits. Everything that is connected, must be achievable. Connections brings better results. The best the connections the greater the results. The best the connections the more stable we become as green revolutionaries

Work With Those Who Want To Work

Force no one to join your green revolution if you want to avoid disappointments. No matter how small is your team; as long as it is a team of committed green revolutionaries, victory is certain. What’s the use of having a thousand men who are not committed to the struggle than having ten men who will go with you all the way.

There Are No Mistakes In Your Planning

What other people consider as mistakes are actually your learning experiences. They can’t see what you are seeing. They are blinded by their egos, ignorance and stupidity. They are actually a waste and causing pollution. They deserve to die and be buried by the sea so that they become oil after million of years.

Your Planning Is Never Complete

Each day has its new developments. Leave gaps in your plan to fill in new developments you may think of, or that of your team you are working with.

Timing

Time yourself. Work around the clock or calendar. Know what you want to achieve and when. In that way you will be able to cover everything you have planned based on the resources you have.

Use Your Imagination, But Be Patient

Clearly see what you want to do and what you want to achieve at the end. Imagine coming back to your township attracted by beautiful green trees and flowers found in every house hold. Of course, you will have to be patient as you will have to get trees to be planted in the township and wait for some years before you could witness birds flying back.

Start Small

This is the most important principle. Keep it manageable and set your own pace.
It is possible, you just have to begin.
